Create your own timeless wardrobe staple - a classic shirt - in this workshop for beginners with Jane McCann

Those with a love of timeless clothing and with an interest in textiles, workwear with some basic experience in sewing / making. To produce a basic calico garment, with corresponding pattern, to represent a simple customised garment shape that will provide a basis for on-going style development.



The focus will be on an individual shirt pattern block for the participant, adaptable to different end-uses. The workshop will cover: An Introduction to the pattern development process, for the cutting of a basic but personalised shirt block: Front/ Back/ Sleeve and collar.

Equipment: 

Please bring; 

  • An existing ‘shirt type’ garment that is comfortable in terms of measurement

  • 2-3metres of Calico in a suitable weight for the type of garment envisaged (Light/medium/heavy weight),

  • Tape measure

  • Ruler

  • Set square (if available)

  • Pencils (Soft & Hard)

  • Pencil sharpener

  • Rubber

  • Paper scissors & Fabric scissors

  • Pins, Needles & thread

  • A pattern Tracing Wheel - would be helpful.

Participants:

Those with a love of timeless clothing, with an interest in textiles and simple shirts/ workwear and some basic experience in sewing / making. 

Please bring a packed lunch.
